PSYCH Season 6 James Roday and Dule Hill Interview

Posted by Megan with No Comments

Not only will the rest of Psych season 6 have some major, major guest stars (Cary Elwes, Greg Grunberg, William Shatner, Kristy Swanson) but the wish list from James Roday and Dule Hill for future guest stars includes one of our favorites – Zachary Levi as Chuck Bartowski! Read on to see what else the duo had to say.

One of our favorite shows on USA Network – the channel that seemingly can do no wrong – is Psych, so we are happy to tell you that the second half of Season 6, or Season 6.5 if you will, premieres next week! I had the chance to chat with James Roday and Dule Hill to ask them about what we can expect on this season and what it’s like to film the show.

As any Psych viewer knows, the show loves to do an homage to classic pop-culture staples as often as they can, and Season 6.5 is no different. The premiere, airing February 29th (Leap Day!) is a send-up of the Indiana Jones franchise titled, “Indiana Shawn and the Temple of the Kinda Crappy, Rusty Old Dagger.” Naturally. It also marks the return of Despereaux (Cary Elwes.) Roday said that this was his favorite of all the Despereaux appearances, and having already screened it, I have to say I agree! They were clearly having a lot of fun, not just with Elwes but with other guest stars, Mädchen Amick (Roday’s first celebrity crush) and from the Indy movies, Sallah himself, John Rhys-Davies.

What To Expect From ‘Psych’ Season 7

Posted by Megan with No Comments

That long-awaited musical episode, for starters. Creator Steve Franks (who wrote and performs the Psych theme song with his band the Friendly Indians) promised fans at this summer’s Comic-Con that it would be the first episode of season seven if the show was picked up. (Stars James Roday and Dulé Hill’s vocal talents are showcased in their hilarious music video spoofs of “Ebony and Ivory” and “Don’t You (Forget About Me)”).

The 16-episode order should also include a Clue tribute, which had to be cut from season six due to scheduling conflicts with the cult classic’s star Tim Curry. “We were all in agreement that we cannot do Clue without Tim Curry, Roday told us this summer on the show’s Santa Barbara Vancouver set, so it will air “right out of the gates.”

Meanwhile, mark your calendars for the Leap Day return of Psych’s sixth season: Wed., Feb. 29 on USA.

Psych Renewed for Season 7

Posted by Megan with No Comments

Get Psych‘d, you Psych-Os, because Shawn and Gus see much more crime-solving ahead.

USA Network has renewed the popular detective comedy for Season 7, making it the longest-running series in the cabler’s history.

Interestingly, instead of simply dropping a typical press release, stars James Roday and Dulé Hill took to Twitter and Facebook on Tuesday, revealing (literal) puzzle pieces that ultimately led to a video of the duo making the pleasantly surprising renewal announcement.

Currently on its holiday break, Psych will resume Season 6, pineapples in-hand, on Wednesday, Feb. 29, at 10/9c.

Q&A: Psych’s James Roday

Posted by Megan with No Comments

IN THE US comedy/drama Psych, James Roday plays Shawn Spencer, a relentlessly infantile but brilliant private detective who runs an agency with his best friend, Gus, (Dule Hill). Andrew Murfett spoke with Roday about his role in the show, which is currently filming its sixth season.

Is it true that you were reluctant to take on the role of Spencer?

I had just come off my third consecutive failed television series. I had sworn off doing TV for a while. I was going to go to New York, sublet an apartment and find my soul again. Before I got on the plane, my agent sent me the script for Psych. I read it on the plane and realised it had a lot of potential.

What did you do next?

I got on the phone with Steve Franks, the show’s creator, which is unusual because you usually audition. I didn’t want to do that, though. We talked for 2½ hours about what the show meant to him, what I liked about the show and what I felt it would need to be for me to deliver the goods.

Did you have much say in casting The West Wing’s Dule Hill as Gus?

Well, instead of a nerdy Jewish guy with glasses, which is how it was written, we ended up with an African-American who couldn’t have been more different to that. I felt like everybody won because the pilot came out as a pretty good representation of what the series could be.

The ‘Psych’ Guys Present: 14 Signs You’re Living With a Criminal

Posted by Jenny with 3 Comments

There’s no denying it: The ‘Psych’ guys give good interview. But heading into their sixth season of fighting crime with their keen powers of observation, we figured they might want to mix things up a bit.

In the Season 6 premiere (Wed., Oct. 12, 10PM ET on USA), titled ‘Shawn Rescues Darth Vader,’ Shawn and Gus are hired to investigate how a body ended up in the home of a British diplomat, played by guest star Malcolm McDowell (‘Caprica’ alum Polly Walker also guest stars). We also find Shawn under the microscope with the Santa Barbara Police Department — they’re finally starting to suspect that he may not actually be psychic. [Cue the dramatic music here.]

Also this season, a vampire spoof episode guest starring original ‘Buffy’ Kristy Swanson, and plenty more guest stars to come including Danny Glover, Jason Priestley, Molly Ringwald, William Shatner, New Kids on the Block alum Joey McIntyre and the return of Cary Elwes as art thief Pierre Despereaux.

After 79 episodes, hundreds of awesome guest stars and even more crazy cases, Shawn and Gus have pretty much seen it all, and stars James Roday and Dulé Hill have picked up a tip or 14 from their TV alter-egos. So we asked them to share a few helpful hints with us — just something for the fans that might even help a few of you out of a potentially dangerous jam.

Without further ado, the ‘Psych’ guys present:
14 Signs You’re Living With a Criminal, by James Roday and Dule Hill

1. He only enters the apartment through your bedroom window.

2. He continually insists on putting his black ski masks in with your “whites.”

3. Every other week you have a bigger, better TV.

4. He has half a pair of handcuffs dangling from his wrist.

5. He keeps you up at night with the annoying sound of his money-making machine.

6. He refers to your automobile as “the getaway car.”

7. Retired drug dogs constantly attack him in the park.

8. He has air holes in the trunk of his car.

9. His “roommate rule”: If there’s a bloody sock on the door knob when you come home, don’t come in.

10. He is not much of a housekeeper, although he consistently bleaches the floors and the bathtub drain.

11. He eats both your leftover pizza … and your pets.

12. His garment bags are lumpy.

13. He complains about the skyrocketing cost of formaldehyde.

14. He is on a first-name basis with ‘Dateline”s Chris Hansen.

James Roday and Dulé Hill tease Gus’s love life and a musical Psych episode

Posted by Jenny with No Comments

The return of Psych is getting closer, and James Roday and Dulé Hill gave me some inside scoop on romance for Gus and that pesky musical episode we have been hearing rumors about. Psych returns on October 12thon USA (owned by NBC), channel 21 for Houstonians.

As fans are well aware, Shawn and Juliet are finally together! However, Gus seems to be left out of the romantic loop. In the past he has only had a girlfriend for one maybe two episodes. Hill says we may have to wait a bit longer for a Gus romance: “I think we are going to have to see what happens in season seven because in season six, he makes a valiant effort to attain that. You can’t blame Gus for trying in season 6. He’s putting his hat in the ring and he’s out there really trying to make it happen. We’ll have to see where it goes in season seven. Maybe he will get past a one episode love interest then.”
